RAILROAD JOE
The resident of the South Philadelphia address on the Chilean Tile through the '70s and possibly well into the '80s, Railroad Joe got his name from his job working for the Conrail railroad line. If he was a conductor or train operator or somesuch, his route on the Conrail line would've taken him through nearly every town that got Tiled with the "old-school" design.
Very little is known on Railroad Joe, including his full name. Stories vary as to when he moved out of his house; some longtime residents of his block claim he left in the early '80s, but public records say the current owner, who moved in directly after him, bought the house in 1988. Thus, it's hazy as to whether or not Joe resided in the South Philly house when the Tileing began. It's important to note that the South Philly residents who knew him that we spoke with are convinced that he would never be involved in a project like the Toynbee Tiles.
